Reddit breach causes data compromise
Reddit’s user data has been compromised in ‘sophisticated hack’ reports The Guardian.
One of the internet’s biggest websites in the world, Reddit, has been the victim of a hack. As a result attackers managed to seize usernames, passwords and email addresses.
While the size of the breach is still being clarified …Reddit said two data sets were accessed by hackers. Including one from 2007 containing account details and all public and private posts between 2005 and May 2007…
Due to information being put at risk Chief technology officer Christopher Slowe stated to users. “If your account credentials were affected and there’s a chance the credentials relate to the password you’re currently using – we’ll make you reset your Reddit account password”…
Although Reddit employee accounts use the common SMS-based two-factor authentication to provide extra protection, attackers were able to exploit a known vulnerability of this security method through information available on the ‘Dark Web’.
